Wendy Clark

About the Artist

Wendy has been weaving since 1994. Her love of weaving has included creating functional weavings for the table, rugs for the floor and walls, as well as scarves, shawls and wraps for the body. She hand dyes her fibers including hand-painting the warps and weft.

Wendy has followed colonial traditions, modern traditions, Japanese SAORI weaving and is now working to expand into weaving as installation artworks. Her creative practice combines her Quaker foundation and spiritual meditation.

She weaves at Liberty Town Art Workshop in downtown Fredericksburg, VA where she is a member of the Fredericksburg Spinners and Weavers Guild, and has a private studio at her home in Spotsylvania, Virginia.

Commissions are welcomed.

Artist Statement

I make art that is rooted in a ‘listening’ self, that cultivates the intertwining of self and Other suggesting an experience which is not limiting, but invites dialogue and reciprocal empathy. I am an interdisciplinary artist. I work in paint, weaving and construct installations made from my painted woven work. My creative practice has a foundation in meditation and spirituality.

My current body of work is in researching historic places of war and penitence, slave narratives and places of deep spiritual presence. I am interested in creating large scale installations that bring together woven cloth and structure that are experiential and visual.

Peace. Contemplation. These are intentions I hope my work offers.
