Wendy has been weaving since 1994. Her love of weaving has included creating functional weavings for the table, rugs for the floor and walls, as well as scarves, shawls and wraps for the body. She hand dyes her fibers including hand-painting the warps and weft.
Artist Statement
My creative practice has a foundation in
meditation and spirituality. I am a weaver, painter and installation artist. I
weave “in the moment” and rarely plan out how a piece will look before it is
woven. I approach the work much like a painting. My woven work is hand
dyed and “painted.” I weave with
two and three colors at a time creating a blending of colors and abstract
patterns. No two pieces are ever alike.
I
have found my home among the hills in West Virginia. I live in a log cabin
where I also have my studio. Long walks along rivers and gravel roads serve as
a strong inspiration for my color choices. I hope my work gives attention to
places of deep spiritual presence. I am interested in how colors blend
seamlessly to create interesting affects when in motion on the body or hanging
from a wall. Peace, contemplation, and healing are intentions I hope my work
offers, like the peace of the West Virginia hills.
